Shenzhen
Shenzhen is a major city located in the southern region of Guangdong Province in China, adjacent to Hong Kong. It is known as a significant hub for global electronics manufacturing and is often called the "Silicon Valley of Hardware." The city's rapid growth from a small fishing village to a metropolis is a testament to its remarkable economic development, primarily driven by its booming manufacturing sector.
In the manufacturing sphere, Shenzhen is home to many high-tech companies, including giants like Huawei and Tencent, as well as many start-ups and small to medium-sized enterprises. The city's manufacturing domain extends to almost any sector, but as for the Californian Silicon Valley, this exponentially growing high-tech hub is expanding its expertises to higher level abstractions (including software, AI, etc), and has the potential to lead the way for Asian innovation.
Shenzhen's infrastructure is meticulously designed to support its tech industries. The city boasts modern facilities, well-established industrial parks, and specialized zones like the Shenzhen High-Tech Industrial Park (SHIP) and the Shenzhen Software Park, providing a conducive environment for businesses to thrive. Finally, Shenzhen showcases a remarkable blend of historical depth, cultural vibrancy, and a thriving art scene, reflecting the city's diverse and dynamic essence.
China and visas

Note: flying to HK is generally (cheaper +) safer as they have more visa-free agreements, and there are urgent visa services there (down to 1 or 2 days depending on the cost and applicant country).
Visa exemptions
According to Wikipedia "holders of ordinary passports issued of the following countries may enter China without a visa as long as their visit does not last longer than the visa-free period listed below":
- 90 days: Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, San Marino
- 60 days: Mauritius
- 30 days: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belarus, Dominica, Ecuador, Fiji, Georgia, Grenada, Kazakhstan, Maldives, Mongolia, Qatar, Serbia, Seychelles, Singapore, Suriname, Thailand, Tonga, United Arab Emirates
- 15 days: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland
Visa on arrival
According to Wikipedia "Visitors from most countries may obtain an entry visa when traveling to and staying solely in the special economic zone of Shenzhen".
Notes:
1) Some entry points (by air/sea/road) DO NOT allow visa on arrival, please do your research to confirm this, and that your country is eligible.
2) "Citizens of the following countries are INELIGIBLE for this special Shenzhen visa":
